নীল আর্মস্ট্রং কে নিয়ে মুসলিমসমাজে প্রচলিত ভ্রান্ত ধারণা ও যুক্তিখণ্ডন :-

 

আমাদের মুসলিম সমাজে একটি কথা খুবই প্রচলিত এবং জনপ্রিয় যে, বিখ্যাত মার্কিন নভোচারী নীল আর্মস্ট্রং একজন মুসলিম ছিলেন। বলা হয়ে থাকে,তিনি চাদে আযান শুনতে পান এবং পরবর্তিতে ইসলাম ধর্মে ধর্মান্তরিত হন। এটা শুধু সাধারণ জনগনের কাছেই নয় বরং বড় ইসলামী উস্তাদেরা এর পক্ষে কথা বলেন। সাথে এও বলা হয়ে থাকে যে, তিনি নাকি চাঁদের দ্বিখণ্ডিত হওয়ার দাগও দেখতে পেয়েছিলেন।

চলুন একটু ফ্ল্যাশব্যাকে গিয়ে তাদের ধারনাকে ভ্রান্ত প্রমাণ করা যাক

প্রথমেই আমরা যদি বিজ্ঞানীদের কথা মেনে নেই তাহলে দাঁড়ায়, চাঁদে কোন বাতাস নেই। শব্দের প্রবাহিত হওয়ার জন্য একটি মাধ্যমের প্রয়োজন। বায়ুশূন্য স্থানে বা ভ্যাকুয়ামে কোন মাধ্যম না থাকায়, সেখানে সাউন্ড ওয়েভ পাস করবে না, বা প্রবাহিত হবে না। তাই চাঁদে কেউ আজান বা শব্দ করলে, সেটি শোনা যাবে না।

এই পরীক্ষাটি নিজের বাসায় করে দেখতে পারেন, বায়ুশূন্য স্থানে আসলেই আজান শোনা সম্ভব কিনা। সেই আজান আবার নভোচারীদের পোষাক ভেদ করে নিল আর্মস্ট্রং এর কান পর্যন্ত পৌঁছালো, যা নিতান্তই হাস্যকর দাবী।

কোনো স্কলার এখন পর্যন্ত এই দাবীর সপক্ষে কোন প্রমাণ উপস্থাপন করতে পারেন নি যে, নিল আর্মস্ট্রং মুসলিম হয়েছিলেন, কিংবা উনি নামাজ পড়েছেন, বা কলেমা পড়েছেন। দাবী যারা করে, প্রমাণ দেয়ার দায়িত্ব তাদেরই। কিন্তু এখন পর্যন্ত কোন প্রমাণ আমরা পাই নি। তবে এর বিপক্ষে প্রচুর প্রমাণ পাওয়া গেছে।

১৯৮৩ সালের মার্চ মাসে ইউএস স্টেট ডিপার্টমেন্ট হতে ইসলামিক বিশ্বের সকল দূতাবাসগুলোতে নিচের এই চিঠিটি প্রেরন করা হয়েছিল। যার ভাবানুবাদ :

" কারো ধর্মীয় অনুভূতিতে আঘাত, কোন ধর্মের মানুষকে অশ্রদ্ধা জ্ঞাপন করা বা কাউকে ক্ষুব্ধ করা থেকে বিরত থাকার সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টাকে সামনে রেখে আর্মস্ট্রং ডিপার্টমেন্টকে পরামর্শ দিয়েছেন এই বিষয়টি পরিষ্কার করতে যে, তার ইসলাম গ্রহণ করার খবরটি অসত্য। সেইসাথে, ভবিষ্যতে এরকম কোন পরিকল্পনাও উনার নেই যে, ভিন্ন কোন দেশে গিয়ে তিনি ইসলামিক কর্মকাণ্ডে অংশ গ্রহণ করবেন।"

সেই সাথে, এশিয়ান রিসার্চ সেন্টারের পরিচালক ফিল পার্শাল এর কাছে নিল আর্মস্ট্রং এর পক্ষ হতে এডমিনিস্ট্রেটিভ এইড এর ভিভিয়ান হোয়াইট এর পাঠানো চিঠিটিও এখানে যুক্ত করা হলো। উল্লেখ্য, নিল আর্মস্ট্রং এর ঠিকানা এখানে লেবানন ( LEBANON ), দেখে কেউ কেউ ধারণা করতে পারেন, নিল আর্মস্ট্রং লেবানন নামক দেশে বসবাস করেন। যা সত্য নয়। এই লেবানন হচ্ছে, মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের একটি জায়গার নাম।

Mr. Armstrong has asked me to reply to your letter and to thank you for the courtesy of your inquiry. The reports of his conversion to Islam and of hearing the voice of Adzan on the moon and elsewhere are all untrue.
Several publications in Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries have published these reports without verification. We apologize for any inconvenience that this incompetent journalism may have caused you.
Subsequently, Mr. Armstrong agreed to participate in a telephone interview, reiterating his reaction to these stories. I am enclosing copies of the United States State Department’s communications prior to and after that interview.

A MUSLIM OVER THE MOON?
“Arabia” is by far the superior newsmagazine regarding what is going on in the Muslim world today. Your reporting is extremely thorough and seeks to be as objective as possible. Your willingness to criticize political policies as well as religious happenings in the Muslim world is refreshing. As an American I would feel your slant on the West is basically fair. It would be most helpful if you would dispel a misconception prevalent in almost all Muslim countries. From Morocco to the Philippines it is commonly believed that Neil Armstrong heard the Azan on the moon, converted to Islam and is now engaged in the full-time propagation of the Muslim faith.
The US State Department has issued a memo saying that the story about Armstrong’s conversion was untrue. The memo said “While stressing his strong desire not to offend anyone or show disrespect for any religion, Armstrong has advised department that reports of his conversion to Islam are inaccurate.” The memo further says, “if post receives queries on this matter, Armstrong requests that they politely but firmly inform querying party that he has not converted to Islam and has no current plans or desires to travel overseas to participate in Islamic religious activities.”
